Edmund Griffith (E.G.) Williamson was born on August 14, 1900 in Rossville, Illinois. He received a B.A. degree from the University of Illinois in 1925 and his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1931. Mabelle G. McCullough obtained a B.A. degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1943, and her M.A. in Religious Education from Yale 1945. From 1945-49 she did post-graduate work at the University of Minnesota, and worked as Associate Director of the Wesley Foundation on the St. Paul Campus, and as acting director of the Housing Bureau.
